How To Carve a Punkin Head

I'm often asked how these were done, so here's a quick overview.

First a rough layout is scratched into the surface, then I start outlining this with a "v" chisel.

Next a thin layer of the surface is removed around the areas to be detailed with a "spoon" chisel.

I start shaping the face by removing the lower depth areas and leaving the features that stand out.

Continuing to add detail and rough out the eye shapes.

We've about got everything shaped and ready for the finer details to be added with a knife and smaller "v" chisel.

Here's the finished "Punkin Head". Appr. time to complete was a little less than an hour.
